What is Tiger Teens?
Tiger Teens is our Muay Thai Kickboxing class designed for teenager aged 13 to 17.
We know that being a teenager can be tough at times. So, we’ve designed our teenage Muay Thai curriculum to help cater to this important transition into adulthood by providing an outlet for stress and a release from the daily grind.
The class provides physical benefits of improved fitness and well being, and self defence through learning a martial art which in turn builds your teens confidence and self esteem to help tackle life’s challenges.
Our grading system is a terrific way to instil discipline and reinforce the fact that focus, dedication and hard work will achieve goals every time.
What are the benefits?
Our structured program ensures a perfect mix of learning and physical fitness. A typical class will involve a warmup to get bodies ready for training, some stretching to increase flexibility, striking and defensive technical training, some bodyweight exercises like push ups, sit ups, squats etc.
As with any martial art the main aim of our Muay Thai program is self preservation. Our students will learn a range of evasive and defensive techniques to use if they find themselves in a threatening situation. This could happen anywhere as our teens are starting to socialise more and attend events on their own. Training with us ensures students are repeating essential defensive techniques that will become instinct over time.
Through learning self defence and also offensive striking techniques students will gain a higher level of self confidence. Each training session the students will be exposing themselves to challenging situations like doing a high kick, or performing new drills in front of the instructor. The feelings of challenge and happiness after they complete it can be found in many life situations too. Another aspect is taking part in light sparring. This can have a massive impact on a students confidence and belief in themselves. This can also be taken further if students want to actively participate in competitions.
Our program runs to our graded Fight Cartel curriculum which is adapted to teenagers. Students commence training ranked as a white shirt, and through learning new techniques and building their physical and mental conditioning they will be allowed to periodically attend gradings. A grading is a test of mental and physical performance where students perform their techniques and are tested on how they perform. To practice for, sit and pass a grading reinforces to our young students that with hard work and dedication they can achieve anything. There are many other situations in each class that students will find themselves in that will continue to reinforce this concept.
What equipment is needed?
All new students will require a uniform, boxings gloves and shin guards. Starter packs with these items are available from reception or you may bring your own gloves and shin guards from home provided they meet club standards.
What other opportunities are there?
WFC runs two gradings a year plus in house sparring competitions where students can put their skills into practice in a controlled environment. Gradings are recommended but sparring competitions are optional.
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) recently granted provisional recognition of Muay Thai as an olympic event. Dedication and commitment to the sport from a young age could see your child as a future olympian!
Kirra has always had a passion for fitness and sports of all sorts. Growing up she played every sport she had the chance to including touch football, indoor soccer, netball, AFL and also played representative Softball & Hockey.
In her 20’s I found herself in the gym everyday, sometimes twice! She was addicted to the adaptions her body was making with cardio and resistance training. Getting less interested in her day job and more interested in training, she made the decision to become a personal trainer and hasn’t looked back.
Also being a first time mum, she knows exactly what it’s like to have to change your routine during pregnancy and can happily tell all you mum’s out there how important it is to stay active during pregnancy and also how doing will help with labour!
And every woman’s biggest fear – post-natal weight gain!! Come in and talk to Kirra about how you can tweak your nutrition and training plan and get back your pre baby body!
Dwayne started his martial arts journey at the age of 12, working his way up the ranks in Shukokai Karate. After competing in numerous kumite tournaments, placing in the top 3 on most occasions and also representing Victoria at national level he wanted a new challenge.
He trained and competed in Hung Fut Kung Fu and Aikido a short while before having the opportunity to commence Kyokushin Karate at the age of 20. Kyokushin Karate, a full contact bare knuckle fighting style widely known as “The Strongest Karate” commands a tough body and mind in order to be successful at it.
In the following years he competed both nationally and internationally in full contact Kyokushin ring fights and tournaments, placing amongst the best in the world. From here Kickboxing was a natural progression and so too was Muaythai. In late 2006 he made the decision to quit his job as a personal trainer and move to Thailand where he immersed himself in training and fighting in the homeland of Muaythai. He also spent some time training in the US (California and Nevada) in Kyokushin, Muaythai, BJJ and MMA.
Fast forward a decade and now with over 25 years of martial arts and fitness experience, Dwayne had a vision to create an environment that allowed him to pass on his knowledge, but also to provide a “one stop shop” where people can train in martial arts, do their strength and conditioning, get in some extra cardio, work on dropping some weight or growing some muscles, all under the one roof! And that’s how World Fitness Cartel and subsequently Fight Cartel were founded.
Dwayne’s an experienced coach that uses progressive training and doesn’t stick to traditional methods where science has proven the benefits elsewhere. He’s trained students and instructed classes in various gyms around Australia, most notably Olsen Muay Thai Factory in Perth and Urban Fight Gym on the Gold Coast.
If you want to get serious about your training, whether it be self defence, fitness, strength, weight loss, or professional/amateur fighting come in and have a chat with Dwayne and see how he can get you on track. He teaches most Muay Thai classes and is available for personal training sessions to help you succeed faster!
